Wild Boar are a native species and an integral part of the ecology of any woodland. The Boar are ethically farmed in 20 acres of woodland and grasses at the edge of the Cotswolds.
The land has been free from any pesticides, herbicides or fertiliser since 1990. They are rotated onto fresh ground throughout the year and forage for their food; this includes acorns, fungi, cherries and other spoils which all helps to make up the unique ‘Real Boar’ flavour. Their natural diet is supplemented by locally produced potatoes and pignuts, which do not contain hormone additives or growth promoters.
Our boar is served in establishments totalling 12 Michelin stars including The Cinq Restaurant at George V in Paris!
The boar are of Polish and German origin and initially came from Dorset, they live in two family groups (known as sounders) with one boar per sounder. The boarlets are weaned at about three months and then separated into male and female paddocks so that they can concentrate on growing and not engaging in any funny business! The boar take up to eighteen months to mature, even longer than even the old-fashioned pig.
