Product Details

Brewed to recreate our popular cask version, our bottle conditioned Potholer is sure to be a big seller. We have left some yeast in the bottle to allow for some secondary fermentation, this will ensure that the beer tastes as near to the real thing as humanly possible. (No pasteurisation or forced CO2 for our beers!!!)

About the Brewery

Cheddar Ales is situated on the Cheddar to Wells road about half a mile from the centre of the village. After being made redundant by Butcombe brewery in 2005 with 15 years service behind him, Cheddar Ales owner and brewer Jem Ham set about formulating his grand plan to set up a brewery that produced not only beers as good as those of his former employer but with hard work and commitment, beers that were even better.

Jem got a job as stand in Head Brewer at Wiltshire micro brewery, Ramsbury Brewery for a year and expanded on his brewing repertoire whilst at the same time being able to put all the plans in place for Cheddar Ales.

The Process

Cheddar Ales are brewed using only the highest quality traditional raw materials.

* Maris Otter malted barley for full flavour
* Lightly roasted crystal malt for colour and flavour
* Wheat malt to help fortify our beer`s natural head and to give that "lacing" effect all the way down the glass
* Generous (Some may say over generous) amounts of whole hops to give our beers real hop character and a really refreshing taste
